Our Mission

Free, comprehensive cannabis information for the East Bay — no product sales, no dispensary affiliations, no advertising. Just the story, the law, and the resources.

Why EastBayCannabis.com Exists

The East Bay is ground zero for cannabis reform. Oakland gave America its first cannabis college, its first equity program, and its first legal adult-use sale. Berkeley has the oldest continuously operating dispensary in the nation. The Bay Area's cultivators bred Girl Scout Cookies, Gelato, and Runtz — strains that dominate menus globally. And the region's hip-hop culture fused cannabis and music into one identity that spread worldwide.

But finding reliable, comprehensive, and non-commercial information about East Bay cannabis — the history, the laws, the equity program, the tax patchwork, the dispensaries, the culture — in one place has never been easy. Most cannabis websites are either trying to sell you something or rehashing the same generic content about California law.

EastBayCannabis.com fills that gap. We are a free educational resource that brings together everything you need to know about cannabis in the East Bay — from the Oaksterdam story and Harborside's survival to California law, city-by-city tax rates, dispensary information, equity program analysis, and visitor guides.

What We Cover

What Makes Us Different

  • No product sales. We do not sell cannabis or cannabis products. We have no financial relationships with dispensaries or cannabis brands. No advertising influences our content.
  • Official sources and primary research. Our information comes from the California Department of Cannabis Control, Oakland city data, Alameda County records, published reports, and direct research. Every claim is verifiable.
  • "Last verified" dates. Legal and regulatory information includes verification dates so you know when content was last confirmed accurate.
  • Honest about the problems. We cover the equity program's failures alongside its successes. We document the tax burden, the illicit market, the burglaries, and the closures. Advocacy without honesty is not useful.
  • Free and open. No paywalls, no premium content, no data harvesting. We use a single age-verification cookie and nothing else.
